CIMCYC: María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence

We are pleased to announce that the Mind, Brain and Behaviour Research Centre of the University of Granada, where we carry out our research and teaching activities, has been recognised as a María de Maetzu Unit of Excellence.

Below, we share the informative note published on the centre’s website:

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has recognized the Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior Research at the University of Granada as a “María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence” (provisional resolution 21/03/2024).

This prestigious call is aimed at research centers and units in all scientific fields, with demonstrated international leadership and capabilities to significantly contribute to advancing the frontier of knowledge, generating high-impact results, and attracting and training talent. The award aims to consolidate the capacities of the selected centers and units and contribute to the international leadership of Spanish research.

The recognition of CIMCYC as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence places us among the best scientific centers and units in Spain, highlighting the international impact and relevance of our work and offering funding for our strategic program over four years.

Achieving this prestigious recognition for CIMCYC, which extends to psychological science in Spain, has been made possible thanks to the work of numerous individuals over the years. This work began with the initiative to build a center of excellence in Psychology at UGR, followed by competitive fundraising efforts to carry it out. This was followed by efforts in the design, construction, equipment, and organization of a flagship heritage building, and finally the development of a competitive common project, reflecting the great potential of the center’s research lines and its personnel. The commitment of the UGR to quality research and its support for CIMCYC have also been essential, sustained over time.

We will invest the funding received in high-impact actions aimed primarily at hiring support staff for the various activities of the center, including research, dissemination of our work and scientific culture, well-being, and gender equality.

We want to thank all the individuals involved in the past, present, and future of CIMCYC for their dedication and work in this shared project.
