Biography

Mariela Bustos-Ortega is an Assistant Professor (Profesora Ayudante Doctora) in the area of Social Psychology, Department of Health Sciences, University of Burgos. PhD in Psychology from the University of Granada, with a specialization in Research Methodology and Measurement in Psychology and Health. My doctoral thesis focused on the study of sexist attitudes toward women in the context of video games through the development of an assessment instrument, under the supervision of Hugo Carretero Dios and Mónica Romero Sánchez, with the collaboration of Jesús López Megías. During my doctoral studies, I was awarded a competitive predoctoral FPU (University Teaching Training) fellowship and subsequently held a Postdoctoral Bridge Contract through the University of Granada’s Plan Propio program. At this university, I also taught in the undergraduate Psychology program and was a member of the Department of Methodology of Behavioral Sciences.

In 2022, I served as Co-Investigator (CoIP) of the research project “NOFACEPS: NOise Filtering in social media According to Credibility, Expertise and PSychological patterns” (PPJIB2021-04), part of the Precompetitive Research Projects for Early-Career Researchers (2022 Call). I have also collaborated on other research lines focused on socio-educational, attitudinal, and personality variables, as well as the study of various online trolling behaviors.

In the field of university management, I was a member of the Infrastructure and Budget Committee of the Mind, Brain, and Behavior Research Center (2021–2023) and of the Equality and Inclusion Committee of the Faculty of Psychology (University of Granada) during the same period. I also served on the Local Organizing Committee of the International Test Commission Conference, held in Granada in July 2024. Since 2022, I have been a member of the HUM-289 research group “Psychology of Social Problems”, in addition to serving as Lab Manager for the SeMiVio research group website – “Sexism, Myths, and Violence against Women”, directed by Jesús López Megías.
