María Alonso Ferres

Biography

I am Assistant Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid. My research focuses on analyzing the functioning of the most intimate interpersonal relationships, from a gender perspective. Specifically, in a dyadic way, we study how people influence their partner’s behavior, emotions, and perceptions; the individual and relationship factors that modulate these responses; and their subsequent consequences on health and well-being. More broadly, I am also interested in studying the impact of different macrosocial factors (e.g., social class, crisis…) on emotions, their variability, and regulation, as well as on psychological well-being.

I have conducted research stays at Wayne State University (USA) and VU Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and taught different courses at the University of Granada and the University of Jaén (Spain).

Main interests

  • Dual processes in couple relationships.
  • Emotion and emotional regulation.
  • Interpersonal conflict resolution.
  • Individual and relationship factors that moderate their functioning (e.g., power, perceived responsiveness…).
  • Consequences of interpersonal relationships for health and well-being.
